A lot of the support requests we get on a regular basis are from eCommerce users who are having some software difficulty. When you look at the range of eCommerce platforms available, such as Magento, Shopify, WooCommerce, OpenCart and Prestashop, there is no wonder that there’s confusion out there.
The best solution for you, as an eCommerce site, should always be the platform that offers the best IT support. Many of these platforms are open source and completely free at the point of use, but offer premium support services which is where they make their money.
In our opinion, Magento offers best of both worlds. It has a killer user community offering free suport and help through forums, as well as a paid support service for enterprise users.
This is mainly why Magento has grown to become one of the most popular sites out there. And we see this time and time again, online retailers, such as UK department store Harvey Nichols and Yorkshire-based beds retailer Quiet Night Beds.
Of course Magento isn’t the only game in town, but let’s look at the competition. WooCommerce is one free popular choice. However, it must be rememebred, that WooCommerce is just a plugin – not an “all-in-one” solution. What you can do with it is limited.
At first glance, this may mean that there will be less need to look for IT support, mainly cost the software is so simpe. However, to get anything decent to work on WooCommerce, you’ll need developer level skill, which means you’ll need IT support. And WooCommerce just doesn’t cut it in that deparment.
Another option could be PrestaShop. But PrestaShop has next to no free support and all IT support is charged at a premium. This can get incredibly costly considering how difficult PrestaShop is to master. Admittedly, they do have a thriving community, so you’ll always find answers in their support forum. However, this by now way makes it a leader in the market.
